The Sunday Post Meme (201)

Hey everybody! I am participating in a book meme called the Sunday Post which is being hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer! The goal of this meme is to share news you have  on various books and things you’ve read or received and also talk about what is coming up for your blog! Book hauls can include library books, yard sale finds, arcs and bought books and you can share these finds with other book bloggers!

Hey everyone! Friday was my birthday and I'm just so happy that I'm able to live another day in this dangerous world that we are living in right now.

Ummm...anyway...to get over that melodrama, I had a wonderful birthday yesterday!  Me and my family went to Red Lobster to celebrate the special occasion and I got a lot of awesome gifts as well!  Some of the gifts I got were a Natsu from "Fairy Tail" funko pop (because I love me some funko pops), a cute little Tails figure where he holds a gaming control, the Suicide Squad and Shang-Chi movies and a selfie stand for my cellphone!  Man, I sure had a wonderful birthday!

One Word: BIRTHDAY!!!

(DVD)

* I was kind of late in watching "Jungle Cruise," but I honestly had a lot of fun with this movie!  Dwayne Johnson was fantastic in this movie and I loved the way that the movie had a nice balance between action and humor!

(NETFLIX)

* I found this movie to be really cute and funny, even though there were some cringe moments, especially with Isabela and her lively friends.

(TUBI)

* I really enjoyed this movie!  I was surprised by the twist in the film and how this became a very dark take on "Home Alone."

What do you celebrate on your birthday?

*So, here are some good things that happened to me recently!

* My birthday happened last week and I had a wonderful time!  We had a nice meal at Red Lobster and I got a lot of awesome gifts like some movies that I've wanted to get since last year and a new stand for my cell phone!

[ANALYZING SONIC THE HEDGEHOG COMICS] Sonic the Hedgehog: Issue 2 (IDW Comics)

Title: Sonic the Hedgehog

Issue: #2

Writer: Ian Flynn

Artist: Adam Bryce Thomas

Series: IDW

Previously Reviewed: Issue 1

So, after reading the very first issue of this brand-new series for the Sonic the Hedgehog comic books, I was getting a bit interested in seeing where this series goes to next and whether or not it would hold up to the Archie Comics. Well, I finally read the second issue to the IDW Sonic the Hedgehog series and it was pretty impressive!  So, before I get into my thoughts about this issue, here's a brief summary of the issue.

So in this issue, Sonic runs off into another town, like he did in the first issue, except this time, he meets up with Amy Rose.  Amy is now one of the leaders of the Resistance fighting against Eggman's robots and she asks Sonic to join the Resistance.  Of course, Sonic refuses to join the Resistance since he's all about doing things his way. But despite that, he still ends up helping Amy out with taking down the robots in the village.

So now that we got the introduction of Tails out of the way, it's time to introduce Amy Rose into this new universe and see how she is being written in this series.  For many years, Amy Rose was written as a character who has a huge crush on Sonic and is constantly chasing after him, sometimes rather aggressively depending on who's writing her character.  But in this series, even though Amy Rose still has a crush on Sonic, she is shown as being much more mature and downplays her love for Sonic.  It was something that surprised me when I first read this issue as I never would have thought that Amy would be portrayed as a mature character.  And in the end, it worked out for me.  Now, I know that there were some complaints about this interpretation of Amy Rose being too similar to Sally Acorn, you know, Sonic's love interest from the Archie Comics?  But for me personally, I actually enjoyed this interpretation of Amy Rose.  To be honest, I wasn't the biggest fan of Amy Rose being a crazed stalker towards Sonic the Hedgehog as it felt like the only thing that matters about Amy Rose's character is that she loves Sonic and nothing else.  I felt that making Amy into the leader of the Resistance actually brought more depth to her character as it shows that she can be a capable leader when given the chance to.  And because this series takes place after "Sonic Forces" (and Sally Acorn doesn't exist in this series), it felt right to me for Amy Rose to take charge of the situation at the moment.  Also, I honestly love Sonic and Amy's relationship here.  Now, I will admit that their relationship does have some "Sonic/Sally" vibes in terms of the two slightly teasing each other, just like Sonic and Sally would do with each other in the Archie Comics.  However, for me, I'm just glad that Sonic and Amy have a much healthier relationship with each other in this series as they can just joke around with each other without Sonic running away from Amy or Amy acting so aggressive towards Sonic.

Another thing that I loved about this issue was Adam Bryce Thomas' artwork.  He's quickly becoming my favorite artist for this series!  I just loved the way that he drew the action sequences in this issue, as well as giving a lot of energetic expressions for the characters.  I always love it when the artwork engages you into the hyper-stylized world of this series and Adam Bryce Thomas' artwork definitely showcased that energy very well.

And let's not forget about this AWESOME shot of Sonic looking cool and stating a line from his popular image song "It Doesn't Matter." I mean, look at this scene!  It's so AWESOME!

Overall, I give this issue a rating of:

I honestly didn't have a problem with this issue.  I thought that this issue was a huge step up from the first issue and I really loved Sonic and Amy's relationship in this issue.  I'm definitely looking forward to seeing more of Sonic and Amy's relationship in the rest of this series soon!
