Stacking the Shelves #101: April 23, 2022

Stacking The Shelves is a book meme created by Reading Reality and it is about sharing books that you are adding to your shelves, whether it's physical or virtual.  This means including books that you bought from the store or online, books you borrowed from friends or from the library, books you've reviewed, gifts and ebooks!

Hey everyone! So, not much has happened to me this week, other than still being hung over by Sonic the Hedgehog 2!  It was great coming back to the movie theaters again ever since the pandemic started and I'm hoping to go back to the movie theaters more frequently in the near future.

The Monsters Club

By: Lotte Jean Elliott

Expected Publication Date: April 21st, 2022

Buy on:   Goodreads

A model student at an exclusive private school, Junie Han is popular, bright and destined for Oxford University. Or so everyone believes.

Unbeknownst to her wealthy friends and family, Junie is a gifted hacker, and is using her talents to make money as a means of escaping the life they have planned for her. As long as she can maintain her image of perfection, nothing will stop her.

Whilst exploring the dark web, Junie and her fellow hacker, Yamazaki, discover a site called the Monsters Club, a place where murderers post pictures of their victims. After investigating the site, Yamazaki disappears. And Junie begins to receive alarming messages from an anonymous stranger...

As Junie's two lives begin to unravel, she finds herself cracking under the pressure of keeping her secrets and her safety. Will she, or someone she loves, become the next victim posted on the Monsters Club's website?

Inspired by a Japanese true crime case, this is a novel with a flavour of evil and goodness, that mixes to create a storm of chaos that nobody saw coming.

Oooh!  A mystery novel about a mysterious murderer!  Sounds interesting!

Harley Quinn: Reckoning

By: Rachael Allen

Expected Publication Date: April 26th, 2022

Buy on:  Bookshop

In this new launch of a trilogy within the DC Icons universe, experience the origin story of a Super Villain. This is the feminist Harley Quinn backstory fans have been waiting for.

When Harleen Quinzel scores an internship in a psych lab at Gotham University, she's more than ecstatic; she's desperate to make a Big Scientific Discovery that will land her a full-ride college scholarship and get her away from her abusive father. But when Harleen witnesses the way women are treated across STEM departments--and experiences harassment herself--she decides that revenge and justice are more important than her own dreams.

Harleen finds her place in an intoxicating vigilante girl gang called the Reckoning, who creates chaos to inspire change. And when Harleen falls for another girl in the gang, it finally seems like she's found her true passions. But what starts off as pranks and mischief quickly turns deadly as one of the gang members is found murdered--and a terrifying conspiracy is uncovered that puts the life Harleen has worked so hard for at stake. Will she choose her future--or will she choose revenge?

In this refreshingly feminist spin on the story of our favorite villainess, Harley Quinn: Reckoning traces Harleen's journey from precocious, revenge-obsessed teenage girl to a hardcore justice-seeker on her way to becoming the most captivating Super Villain of all time. Vibrating with youthful energy and rage, this is one story that you won't be able to put down.

It's a book about Harley Quinn. Of course I'll read it!

Hey everyone! So, last week, I went to see SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 2 and man, did I have a fun time with that movie!  I've been a huge Sonic the Hedgehog fan ever since I was little and after watching the first movie, I was more than excited to watch the sequel and I really enjoyed it!  Both Tails and Knuckles were fantastic additions to the movie and Jim Carrey still slammed it as Dr. Robotnik!  I can't wait to watch the third movie soon!
