Title: Sonic the Hedgehog
Issue: #9
Writer: Ian Flynn
Artist: Tracy Yardley
Series: IDW
Wow! It's been awhile since I last reviewed a Sonic comic, hasn't it? Well, now we are reviewing issue 9 of the IDW series and this time, Sonic and his friends are going up against Neo Metal Sonic!
In this issue, Metal Sonic (now known as Neo Metal Sonic) succeeds in taking over Angel Island and the Resistance spend most of the issue trying to figure out a way to defeat Neo Metal Sonic. Once they figured out a plan, the Resistance starts going all out on Neo Metal Sonic, until Neo Metal Sonic gets his hands on the Master Emerald...
So, here it is folks! The first issue in this series where all of the characters that we were introduced to all come together to defeat a great evil! So, for the first eight issues, we just mostly spent time on Sonic meeting up with his friends and also making new allies along the way. But this issue has all of Sonic's friends and new allies come together for the first time to defeat Neo Metal Sonic and it was quite an impressive issue! I loved seeing the relationships between all of the characters in this issue and there were many moments I liked, such as of course, the banters between various characters like Blaze and Amy, Sonic and Tails, Vector and Knuckles (was really hoping they made a call back to Vector and Knuckles being apart of the Chaotix together in the past) and we even get to see newcomer Tangle interact with Silver and the Chaotix as they play cards together! I always love it whenever we get to see the relationships between these characters and Ian Flynn does a fantastic job at writing the relationships between these characters.
Another thing that I really liked about this issue was the artwork by Tracy Yardley. Tracy Yardley's artwork is as usual a pleasure to look at and I especially loved the fight sequences and the various displays of each character's powers, especially Blaze the Cat's powerset as she uses her fire abilities to take down enemies and of course, Amy Rose using her hammer to take down enemies. The action sequences are highly stylized and they really bring on the energy of this issue.
The only "minor" problem that I had with this issue was that I wish that Shadow the Hedgehog had more moments with the other characters besides Rouge (and there's a reason for that, which I will get into in later issues), but I won't go too far into that sentiment just yet.
Overall, I give this issue a rating of:
Overall, while I wish there were more moments between the characters who don't normally interact with each other, I still had a lot of fun with the action sequences here and I can't wait to see how the heroes will take down Neo Metal Sonic!
