Fairy Tale and Folktale Fridays #39: Fat Cat

Hey there!  Welcome to "Fairy Tale and Folktale Fridays," a new feature on my blog where I discuss about some fairy tales and folktales I have read throughout the years.

Fat Cat

Type: Folktale

Country of Origin: Denmark

Main Character Hero or Heroine: Hero or Heroine (depending on which version you read)

Recommend?: Yes!

The story starts off with the Cat swallowing up a large batch of pies and then he proceeds to swallow up most of the townspeople, which included a wash lady and her washtub, a troop of soldiers and even the king and his elephant!  But when the Cat swallows up a mouse and her sewing basket, he soon learns the hard way that he shouldn't eat everything in site!

Wow!  This was one crazy story!  I have read many folktales about characters eating up other characters.  But, I never read a folktale that involved a cat eating up most of the people in town!  I was also surprised by how violent the ending of this story got as I won't spoil the ending for those of you who haven't read this story yet, but let's just say that it involves a bit of surgery.  Definitely a fun story to read!

1. How did you feel about the Cat eating up all the people in town?

I will admit that I was a bit disturbed by the cat eating up most of the people in the story since it's rare that I've seen a story where a cat of all animals eats up people.

Buy on:   Bookshop

A teen girl finds herself lost on a dangerous adventure in this YA thriller by the acclaimed author of The Wicker King and The Weight of the Stars—reimagining Peter Pan for today’s world.

On Wendy Darling’s first night in Chicago, a boy called Peter appears at her window. He’s dizzying, captivating, beautiful—so she agrees to join him for a night on the town.

Wendy thinks they’re heading to a party, but instead they’re soon running in the city’s underground. She makes friends—a punk girl named Tinkerbelle and the lost boys Peter watches over. And she makes enemies—the terrifying Detective Hook, and maybe Peter himself, as his sinister secrets start coming to light. Can Wendy find the courage to survive this night—and make sure everyone else does, too?

Acclaimed author K. Ancrum has re-envisioned Peter Pan with a central twist that will send all your previous memories of J. M. Barrie’s classic permanently off to Neverland.

Oooh! Another retelling for Peter Pan, but with a modern twist?  Can't wait to check this book out!

Darkness blooms in bestselling author Kalynn Bayron's new contemporary fantasy about a girl with a unique and deadly power.

Briseis has a gift: she can grow plants from tiny seeds to rich blooms with a single touch.

When Briseis's aunt dies and wills her a dilapidated estate in rural New York, Bri and her parents decide to leave Brooklyn behind for the summer. Hopefully there, surrounded by plants and flowers, Bri will finally learn to control her gift. But their new home is sinister in ways they could never have imagined--it comes with a specific set of instructions, an old-school apothecary, and a walled garden filled with the deadliest botanicals in the world that can only be entered by those who share Bri's unique family lineage.

When strangers begin to arrive on their doorstep, asking for tinctures and elixirs, Bri learns she has a surprising talent for creating them. One of the visitors is Marie, a mysterious young woman who Bri befriends, only to find that Marie is keeping dark secrets about the history of the estate and its surrounding community. There is more to Bri's sudden inheritance than she could have imagined, and she is determined to uncover it . . . until a nefarious group comes after her in search of a rare and dangerous immortality elixir. Up against a centuries-old curse and the deadliest plant on earth, Bri must harness her gift to protect herself and her family.

From the bestselling author of Cinderella Is Dead comes another inspiring and deeply compelling story about a young woman with the power to conquer the dark forces descending around her.

Oooh! A book about a character finding out more about her powers! I can't wait to check this out!

Stacking the Shelves #89: June 12, 2021

Stacking The Shelves is a book meme created by Reading Reality and it is about sharing books that you are adding to your shelves, whether it's physical or virtual.  This means including books that you bought from the store or online, books you borrowed from friends or from the library, books you've reviewed, gifts and ebooks!

Hey everyone!  It's been awhile since I last updated anything on this blog.  Life has been really busy for me lately and I barely have time to blog these days.  Anyway, the update on my breathing, I finally got myself a CPAC mask since I do have some sleep apnea and I have to say that my breathing is getting a little better ever since I started using the CPAC machine.  Hopefully, my breathing will get a little better in the near future so I don't have to rely on the CPAC machine as often.  Also, me and my family are getting ready for my dad's birthday, which is coming up soon this month!  I already got my dad some gifts, so I'm just waiting for his birthday to come by!
